Chromebook Printing

 Option 1: Adding a Printer from the Chrome browser

To print in ChromeOS, please follow these steps: 

1. Sign into your Chromebook if you haven't already

2. Open the page you want to print in the Chrome browser

3. Press Ctrl + P or click on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and select Print…

4. Click on the down arrow next to "Destination" and then select See more…

5. Click on the Manage Printers button to open up the printer settings

6. Click on the dropdown arrow for "Other available printers"

7. Click on the + Add printer manually button

8. Enter the Name and IP address of the printerNote: If your printer doesn't have a static ip address, you will need to assign one or find it before continuing. 


9. Verify that "Internet Printing Protocol (IPP)" is selected under Protocol

Note: If you do not have IPP enabled on the printer, select the older "Line Printer Daemon (LPD)" protocol

10. Click the Add button

11. You're done!


Option 2: Adding a Printer in Settings

To print in ChromeOS, please follow these steps: 

1. Sign into your Chromebook if you haven't already

2. At the bottom right, click on the Quick Settings Menu (button with the time) and then select Settings (cog button)

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings and select Advanced

4. Under Advanced, select Printers and Scanners, then Printers from the list of options

5. Click on the dropdown arrow for "Other available printers"

6. Click on the + Add printer manually button

7. Enter the Name and IP Address of the printer

Note: If your printer doesn't have a static IP address, you will need to assign one or find it before continuing. 


8. Verify that "Internet Printing Protocol (IPP)" is selected under Protocol

Note: If you do not have IPP enabled on the printer, select the older "Line Printer Daemon (LPD)" protocol


9. Click the Add button

10. You're done!



Google Cloud Print

Google Cloud Print was shutdown on December 31, 2020, which was how ChromeOS previously handled printing. While the Xerox printers still show support for Google Cloud Print (Connectivity ⇒ Mobile Printing ⇒ Google Cloud Print), it doesn't work and should be disabled.
