The new 3110 Chromebooks use a new firmware called CRET-BKLL which includes a different-looking "recovery mode". This new recovery mode will still allow you to do a powerwash or a Chrome OS reinstall, but it also offers some new tools as well. 

You will still do the same keyboard combo as we have always done to enter recovery mode:

ESC + Refresh (arrow) + Power

Below you will find screenshots of the new recovery mode including pics of all the new sections that it offers. 

*Note - You will need to use the keyboard keys (arrows, ENTER) to navigate while in recovery mode. Also, most of the sections have a "back" button but you can also use the ESC key to go back as well. Just FYI, when you are in the "launch diagnostics" section, there is no back button, and the ESC key will not work. Therefore, to get back to the main menu from the launch diagnostics combo again ESC + Refresh (arrow) + Power to get back to the main menu.

Main Menu 

Here you can choose to create a flash drive by clicking the button called Recovery using external storage, Launch diagnostics (storage info, quick memory check, and full memory check), or Advanced options (Enable developer mode, Debug info, and firmware info). 

Enable developer mode is how you can powerwash the CB when it doesn't boot properly. If the CB does boot properly, you can always just use the keyboard combo (SHIFT + CTRL + ALT +R) to do a powerwash.

On the main menu, next to the QR code, you will see the firmware model which is CRET-BKLL. When you create a Chrome OS flash drive using the Chromebook Recovery Utility Extension, please make note of this firmware model number.

At the time of this document, I was not able to find any official documentation regarding these checks, but I will update this section when possible. However, most of these items are self-explanatory.

Recovery Using External Storage - Screen 1 of 6: 

When you click the "Recovery Using External Storage" button from the main menu, the screens will walk you through the steps on how to create a flash drive and reinstall the Chrome OS. Unfortunately, it will not create the flash drive for you so you will still need to use the Chromebook Recovery Utility Extension to create your flash drive. (or see this solution page for more info)

Recovery Using External Storage - Screen 2 of 6: 

Click the Next button as it's just explaining where to find the Chromebook Recovery Utility Extension as mentioned above.

Connect your USB flash drive with the Chrome OS already installed and ready to go. Once connected, the installation and recovery process will automatically start.

The system will first verify and confirm that your USB flash drive is good before installing.

After verifying the USB flash drive, it will then start to install the Chrome OS.

This final screen confirms that the Chrome OS installation is complete. Follow the directions and unplug the USB drive.
